Cape Town – PETA has issued a statement calling Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra out for using animals in their wedding.
The couple celebrated their love with two ceremonies over the weekend. The first, a Christian ceremony that was officiated by Nick’s dad, Kevin and then a traditional Hindu ceremony on Sunday.

Photos show the couple had elephants and horses for Sunday’s ceremony - a white horse that was draped with red and golden embellishments and a white elephant that was saddled for two riders, Daily Mail reports.
According to USA Today, PETA India CEO Manilal Valliyate said in a statement on Monday: “Priyanka was ill served by not being advised of the firestorm that would be caused by participating in animal abuse.
“It doesn’t make a person look big or glamorous to promote cruelty to animals who have no choice but to serve. It makes them look small.”
India’s PETA official Twitter account further shared a video illustrating animal abuse in India wedding ceremonies.
The caption alongside the video reads: “Dear Priyanka and Nick. Elephants for weddings live in chains and horses are controlled with whips and spiked bits.
“People are rejecting elephant rides and are having horse-free weddings. Congratulations, but we regret it was not a happy day for animals.”

Furthermore, Twitter users called Priyanka out for having an extravagant fireworks show at her wedding, just a month after she campaigned against firecrackers.
According to the Hindu Times, Priyanka pleaded with her fans and followers to “skip the crackers this Deepawali” in a video for Breathefree, a public service initiative for asthma patients organised by Cipla, that was released on 6 November.
