Cape Town - Mel B recently got candid about her struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The singer revealed during an interview with The Sun that she had a terrifying dream that involved her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte cutting her finger off.

The couple’s tumultuous relationship was widely reported in the tabloids during their 10-year marriage and Mel has frequently spoken out about Stephen’s alleged abuse.

Now she’s shared how a former incident triggered a nightmare, Daily Mail reports.

"I came running down the stairs because I thought my ex had cut my finger off," she recalls. "I thought it had actually happened because he was threatening to do that."

Only after her mother Andrea reassured her that her finger was still intact, did Mel calm down.

"I was convinced my finger was gone and my mum had to reassure me it was still there. I have to remind myself that I’m living in the present and that the flashback is my brain playing tricks on me."

The couple officially settled their divorce in 2017 but Mel says this was only the first step in the journey of healing, Mirror writes.

"Even though you have left your abuser, that pain and anxiety is always there."
