The Hunger Games actor filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court citing "irreconcilable differences", TMZ reports and is not asking for spousal support.

For the most part, their separation has been amicable – the couple had a prenup and their own homes from before they were married, so the divorce shouldn't be a messy one.

Miley did, however, want to work on the marriage, but "Liam is just done with it", a source told E! News.

"There is no turning back, and he knows he wants to move on. They have not had a lot of communication. There is nothing to say," the insider added.

After ending their nearly ten-year relationship, Liam's been spending much of his time working through things with the support of family and friends. The source added, "He needed to get out of town and away from it all to be able to get some perspective. He is with the people he loves and just taking each day as it comes. Everyone has been very supportive and trying to take his mind off of things. He's not in a rush to figure out where to go next."

Miley's been coming to terms with the split by spending time with her family too, as well as new flame and recently separated herself, Kaitlyn Carter.

When news broke of the split, a rep for the 26-year-old singer said Miley and Liam have decided to focus on themselves as they're "ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals", which echoes the lyrics of Miley's breakup ballad, Slide Away.

The song dropped just days after the rep made the announcement and may have alluded to this here "irreconcilable differences" with lyrics, "I want my house in the hills/don't want the whiskey and pills/I don't give up easily, but I don't think I'm down."
