Cape Town - Kim Kardashian received some backlash for her cornrow hairdo earlier this year – and now the reality star is finally speaking out!
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star (37) was criticised in January, after she posted a video of herself in blonde cornrows on Snapchat and Instagram.
“So guys I did Bo Derek braids and I’m really into it,” Kim captioned one of her posts.
Shortly after her post, social media went into a frenzy and accused her of cultural appropriation.

But that didn’t stop the reality star.
Kim attended 2018 MTV Movie and TV Awards in June sporting cornrows, which once again caused some controversy.

She has now spoken out about the backlash at a Beautycon.
“I’ve definitely had my fair share of backlash when I’ve worn braids. I’ve been fortunate to be able to travel around the world and see so many different cultures that have so many different beauty trends.” she said at Beautycon in Los Angeles on Sunday, 15 July reports Metro.
“My daughter actually loves braids like this last time I wore them, she helps me pick out a look and will show me pictures.
“I just think if it comes from a place of love and you’re using it as a cultural inspiration, then I think it is okay.
“Sometimes I think maybe if you don’t communicate where you got the inspiration from and I’ve done that in the past then people might not understand it.
“But yeah, I think as long as it comes from a place of love and you’re getting inspired, then it is okay."
The reality star attended the beauty festival with her oldest child North West (5) and documented their car ride to the event.
“Look who my date is to Beautycon,” Kim said in the video, as North West just looked at the camera, without saying a word.
