Cape Town - On the latest episode of her web television show, Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith (47) revealed that after her success in Tinseltown she became extremely suicidal.

The Girls Trip actress recalled that when she was around 20 and her career started taking off, she called her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones (64), in a panic after having a mental breakdown, Us Weekly reports.

“I’d gotten to LA and gotten a certain amount of success and realised that, that wasn’t the answer – that, that wasn’t what was going to make everything okay,” she said.

“Actually, it made things worse. And I became extremely suicidal and I had a complete emotional collapse,” she added.

Jada’s daughter and co-host of the show, Willow Smith, nodded with understanding as she’d revealed in a previous episode of the show that she used to cut herself after she first made it to the big-time, USA Today reports.

“I’d just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this grey area of ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’” Willow said at the time.

“After the tour and the promotion and all that, they wanted me to finish my album. I was just like, ‘No, I’m not going to do that.’ After all of that settled down and it was a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music and it was so crazy. I was just plunged into this black hole and I was like cutting myself,” she added.

Jada has never shied away from talking about her mental health struggles and has often spoken about her severe battle with depression and anxiety.
