Kendrick Sampson was shot while protesting the death of George Floyd on Saturday.
Citizens across the US have been protesting the death of George Floyd, who was killed while being apprehended by police on 25 May. The 46-year-old black man called out to the officer with his knee on his neck: "I can’t breathe." He died shortly after. The four officers have been fired from the Minneapolis Police Department and charged.
The Insecure star, who is a vocal activist, is one of many celebs who joined protests in Los Angeles over the weekend, reports CNN. He later took to Twitter to share what happened.
"He pointed the gun DIRECTLY AT ME," he wrote, commenting on a story published by Deadline. "I actually got hit 7 times with rubber bullets and many with batons. My boy has stitches," he said.
Glad I y’all witnessed this. Esp the video of them actually targeting us. He didn’t try to ricochet the bullets of the ground - one tactic - he pointed the gun DIRECTLY AT ME. I actually got hit 7 times with rubber bullets and many with batons. My boy has stitches. #DEFUNDPOLICE https://t.co/q6DLRnqlYG

He also shared video clips of the protest – one is part of a CNN broadcast which shows him and others getting hit by the police with batons.
His How To Get Away With Murder costar and fellow activist, Matt McGorry, also shared clips of things turning violent later in the day on Instagram.
Nah we need to take down the WHOLE damn system. They raised their batons & their guns. This time they were rubber bullets. IF LAPD didn’t know cameras were on they wouldve done much WORSE. They’re organized crime, continuing the legacy of slave catching. #DefundPolice @MayorOfLA https://t.co/YJYowz45C9

Kendrick said he went to the hospital where a nurse asked him if he’d reported what happened. In disbelief, he asked who he has to report it to.
According to Variety, other stars, including Halsey, also attended the same protest, while John Cusack said he was injured for filming a burning car.
"Cops didn’t like me filming so they came at me with batons," the actor wrote on Twitter.
Cops didn’t like me filming the burning car so they came at me with batons. Hitting my bike.
