Cape Town - Not even Tala Alamuddin Le Tallec’s famous sister, international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, could get her out of this one.

Earlier this week the 47-year-old was sentenced to three weeks behind bars and given a $6,400 (R96 000) fine for drink driving.

The court heard that on May 14 she was driving her husband’s BMW X5 along Holland Road in the direction of Ulu Pandan in Singapore when she was stopped at a police roadblock, reports Straits Times.

Staff Sergeant Alvin Lee says Tala struggled to find the vehicle’s brake and that she reeked of alcohol when he stopped her at around 2.30am.

When she searched for her driver’s license in a bag in the rear passenger seat, she briefly hit the gas pedal by accident, he says.

After conducting a breathalyzer test, authorities found she had 95 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of her breath – more than twice the country’s prescribed limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol.

She later admitted that prior to getting behind the wheel, she gulped down two glasses of wine and a glass of champagne while at a restaurant in the trendy Dempsey Hill enclave.

At her hearing on Monday the fashion designer, pleaded guilty to charges of drunk driving, driving without a licence and using a vehicle without insurance coverage.

The mother-of-four, whose licence was suspended, was also disqualified from holding or getting all classes of driving licences for four years after she’s released.

Her lawyer said Tala was genuinely remorseful and claimed she was suffering consequences of “unwarranted publicity [of her case].”

Tala was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2013 and disqualified from getting behind the wheel for two years, reports PageSix. She also faced offenses of reckless driving in 2010 and in 2004.

She resided in New York before marrying Singapore-based businessman Nagi Hamiyeh. She’s since split from him and married an Italian businessman. According to InStyle magazine one of her four children, a daughter named Mia, was the flower girl at Amal’s wedding to actor George Clooney in 2014.
