Cape Town - Actor George Clooney was involved in a motorbike accident last year and thought that was the end for him.
The Catch-22 star was travelling on his motorbike in Italy in July last year when a car suddenly turned into his lane and crashed into him, tossing him up 6m into the air, People reports.
The 58-year-old was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said that after the accident occurred he thought he would die, US Weekly reports.
“I was driving 70 miles per hour (112km/h) when we crashed, so it was bad. “It hit hard. It knocked me out of my shoes and my helmet split in half.
“I was waiting for the switch to turn off because I broke his windshield with my head and thought, ‘Okay, well, that’s my neck’”.
George also revealed that the accident convinced him to stay off his motorbike for good, Fox News reports.
“If you get nine lives, I’ve got all of them used up. So I’ll let go of motorcycle riding for a while,” the A-lister said.
Oceans Eleven producer Grant Heslov, who’s a motorbike enthusiast himself, also vowed not to ride his bike again.
“I made a deal as I was holding him waiting for the ambulance,” Grant said. “I said to myself, ‘If he lives, I’ll never ride a motorcycle again.’”
George added: “It got both Grant and I – after 40 years of riding together – off of motorcycles for good.”
This is not the first time the Hollywood hunk has opened up about the incident.
During a Catch-22 panel discussion, George revealed that his wife, Amal, banned him from ever getting onto a motorbike again.
“I’m not allowed to ride motorcycles,” Clooney told the crowd. “I got into a really bad accident.”
