Beyoncé and Jay-Z accept their Brit Award and Meghan makes a surprise 'appearance'

Cape Town - Beyoncé and Jay-Z made a statement while accepting their Brit Awards for Best International Group on Wednesday and people are loving it.

The musical couple were unable to attend the award ceremony, held at the O2 in London, but sent in a pre-recorded acceptance video in which they recreate a scene from their Apeshit music video.

In a scene of the video, which was filmed at the Louvre museum in Paris, Bey and Jay are standing in front of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa.” Similarly, in their acceptance video the couple are standing in front of a portrait, this time, of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

In an Instagram post Bey further explains why they included the portrait, saying: “In honour of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas.”

The Formation hitmaker further congratulated the former American actress on her pregnancy.

After sharing the video, Twitter lit up with comments of praise with come believing that it was Bey and Jay’s way of showing support for Meghan in the wake of UK tabloid’s vilified treatment of her.

The portrait was done by artist Tim O’Brien, who has also done a regal portrait of Beyoncé, and was featured on the cover of the alumnae magazine for Meghan’s sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, People reports.

Sharing his surprised reaction to the use of his portrait in the Carters’ video on Twitter, Tim wrote: “Interesting to see my painting of Megan Markle behind @Beyonce and JZ for their Brit award.  Congratulations to them both.(sic)”
