Court statements from the case between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pitso Mosimane and his agent Moira Tlhagale has revealed how Mokwena was on the verge of switching allegiance from the Brazilians to Al Ahly as Mosimane's assistant coach in 2020.

The court heard how the 37-year-old decided against the decision at the final hour, in favour of remaining at Sundowns, where he would be instated as the co-head coach alongside Manqoba Mnqgithi.

Results have proven that Mokwena's decision to remain in Chloorkop proved to be a fruitful one, as he managed four league titles, the African Football League as well as the Nedbank Cup in that time.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the COSAFA Awards ceremony, Mokwena was asked whether he regrets the decision not to follow Mosimane, and revealed that it was something that had not crossed his mind, but he feels he is in the right place with Sundowns.

"To be honest, I haven't had a chance to think about it. There is a feeling that you are where you supposed to be, and so everything happens for a reason," he told journalists at the event which honours excellence in Southern African football.

"I don't think there's a space in me that's got any regrets, and even though I never thought about where the journey might have ended, there's still a huge sense of gratitude and appreciation for where I am.

"I'm grateful to be the head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, it's a big enough club and I'm very proud of what we've achieved, the contribution from the technical team, the board and management and especially the players. I'll never forget them in my entire life - in me they know they have a brother for life," he added.
