Cape Town – We went to the raft party of the year and lived to tell the tale!
The Raft Up party, courtesy of Maserati Cape Town Race Week, was held on Saturday night following an action packed day of sailing.
Overheard:
* Cape Town Race Week is South Africa’s premier yachting regatta. The mix of world-class yacht racing and shoreside events and parties runs over six days from 15 to 20 December 2016 and attracts sailors from South Africa and around the world.
The Cape Town Race Week will eventually culminate with a race prologue of sorts for the 2017 Cape2Rio presented by Maserati.
* Race Day three, Saturday, brought good South Easter that produced steady wind and some strong gusts, causing a few yachts to broach in the building breeze.
* The first three days of Cape Town Race Week, hosted by the Royal Cape Yacht Club, were a picture-perfect example of what sailing is all about in the Mother City. Clear blue skies, busy waters and energetic post-race parties filled the days of all Race Week participants.
*30 boats lined up to take part in South Africa’s premier regatta.
* The five days of racing takes place in Table Bay, and Saturday’s action saw boats race from Milnerton towards Woodstock, with a second leg that went up towards Blouberg.
* Yachts Nitro and Cape Fling took the leading the charge, but it was Nitro that took the win to go along with their day one victory.
* The day ended with sailors and spectators coming together for a sunset raft party like no other. With DJ Minx on the decks and an ice cold beer there wsa floating, swimming and sliding to be done.
