Yvonne Chaka Chaka nearly caught in police shootout

Cape Town - Legendary South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka was nearly caught in the crossfire during a police shootout in Midrand on Tuesday. 

Speaking to The Juice, provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the incident happened at approximately 14:30 in Centurion. 

"Three suspects who had hijacked a Mercedes Benz panel van in Centurion were involved in a shootout with police who had been chasing them. Two suspects were shot, one died at the scene and another was wounded and airlifted to the hospital under police guard.

"A third suspect managed to escape. During a shootout, the suspects tried to hijack a Mercedes Benz (sedan). Two firearms, a pistol and R4 rifle were found at the scene. Police officers were not injured. Only a vehicle was damaged on the side window," Dlamini said.

"Wow this is what I survived Thank u Lord, (sic)" Yvonne captioned a picture of the shootout scene on Twitter.

Thanking her followers for the messages of support, she later tweeted, "Thank u all it was very close. Never seen a thing like this except at the movies.wow. (sic)"

"I respect life. U could be anywhere minding ur Buz and anything can happen. (sic)"
