Cassper's big spendah song is all about saving money

Johannesburg – In case you haven’t noticed, Cassper Nyovest has become quite the penny pincher lately.

The rapper teamed up with the Sanlam Group on a campaign to save money in the month of July (more on that here). So far he has been seen getting a road-side haircut, shopping at Mr. Price (check out those snaps here), and even showing fans how to get the most out of their toothpaste.

What it’s about:

On Friday night it all came together when Cassper explained why he decided to join the campaign at an event in Maboneng, Johannesburg.

“I’ve been known to be one of those guys whose always posting stuff, like my little car and stuff like that,” Cassper told the crowd, mentioning how the campaign has made him realise how important saving actually is.

The rapper also took the opportunity to release his new track Mr Madumane (big spendah). In the song he once again raises the importance of saving, ending the track in a few words which sum up what he has been trying to prove over the past month: “the money that you spend doesn’t define you.”

Talking about the track, Cassper says, “We all know a Mr Madumane, the flamboyant guy you never see without a flashy accessory. He spends thousands trying to impress everyone, yet no one is impressed. This attitude is what inspired this song. We need to rethink what’s important to us.”

Overheard:

-       Cassper confessed to sometimes spending R100 000 on a night out.

-       The rapper says the Sanlam campaign has taught him the “importance of saving money”.

-       Word on the street is US rapper Jay Z is a Cassper fan. He apparently contacted the rapper to tell him how impressed he is with his work.
