The coaches take a gamble this Sunday on The Voice SA

Johannesburg - Being a coach on The Voice South Africa is turning out to be a tough task. The talent on stage is absolutely phenomenal and with only 14 places in each of their teams Karen Zoid, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Lira and Kahn Morbee have to make more strategic choices.

If they turn their red chair around too fast, they might miss out on some fantastic singers later on, but if they play their cards too carefully some incredible talent might just slip through their fingers.

To add to the conundrum, they often want the same singers and then have to outdo their colleagues with a pitch that will persuade the talent to join them.

This week Sunday’s episode on M-Net 101 at 17:30, is filled with some great surprises. With their backs turned to the stage, what the coaches don’t know is that some of the voices belong to experienced musicians for whom The Voice SA could be their opportunity to become household names.

There are also young people who are blessed with a mature vocal quality this week, as well as a much older singer who loves a challenge.

“No wonder people are getting hooked on The Voice SA,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard.

“It’s a gamble for both the singers and the coaches… and you never know who is going to be the next one walking onto the scene. The common denominator is that everyone can sing. The question is, which coach will nab the talent that will finally win the competition? And, in which coach’s team would you have the best chance to go all the way to the top?”

Once the coaches have filled their teams, the competition moves on to the Battle Rounds during which the coaches pair their talent up and pit them against each other as they sing the same song. At the end of the performance, the coach can only pick one performer to go through to the live round of the series.
