Here's the lowdown on last night's Voice SA

Johannesburg - The second batch of 16 sixteen singers who made it through the fierce Battle rounds performed live on The Voice SA stage in the hopes of going through to the next round with a “save” from their team’s coach – Karen Zoid, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Lira and Kahn Morbee. 

For the three in each team who didn’t receive the go-ahead from their coach there is still a lifeline however: the one who receives the most support from the voting public this week will remain in the game with all the saved singers to date. 

Following last night's performances, rocker Karen Zoid decided to go with former back-up singer Thapelo Lekoane, 29, from Alexandra who thrilled the audience with her interpretation of Mary Mary’s Shackles.  

Thapelo is joins Karen’s save from last week, Durban diva Thembeka Mnguni, 32, and Jono Grayson, 23, who received the most votes from the public in #TeamKaren in the previous voting period.

Parlotones frontman Kahn Morbee saved Prime Zulu, 27, from Durban, whose performance of Cobie Caillat’s anthemic Try! secured him a place alongside Cape Town muso Richard Stirton, 22, Kahn’s choice from last week and soulful Clemour Ngobeni, 24, who made it through, courtesy of the audience’s vote.

Songbird Lira added Durbanite Jono Johansen,19, to her team that already consists of audience save Robin Pieters, 25, from Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg’s Zoë Modiga who bowled Lira over with her powerhouse performance of last week. Jono performed Adele’s megahit Hello.

With the final save of the evening Bobby completely surprised cool kid Austin Lurring, 20, from Pietermaritzburg by picking him. Bobby’s confirmed team to date also includes experienced performer Gavin Edwards, 37, who travelled the world with his band and 20-year old Xanilee Hammond who came out tops at the #TeamBobby public voting poll this week.

How to vote for the remaining talent:

#TeamKaren: 

- Zaretha Duvenage, 23, an industrial psychology student from Pretoria, performed Rachel Platten’s Fight Song and Coach Karen rated her “10 out of 10!” Zaretha’s voting number for as long as she stays in the competition will be 24.
- #TeamKaren’s Stilfontein wonder, 25-year-old Almur Marais, brought the house down with a rousing rendition of Radiohead’s Creep. “I’m just so proud of this guy!” Karen marveled. Almur’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 17.
- And 24-year-old Mbijana Sibisi from Durban impressed with a lively ska version of the New Radicals’s You Get What You Give. “Fantastic performance – you really entertained,” said Karen. Mbijana’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 20.

#TeamKahn:

- Classically-trained Johan Anker, 23, from Roodepoort, performed the traditional spiritual How Great Thou Art with the Mzansi Youth Choir and Coach Kahn praised him for his courage in sticking out in pop culture. Johan’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 13.
- The 19-year-old Pretoria singer Lara Gear took it uptown with the funky Lady Marmalade classic. “Superb job!” Kahn told her. Lara’s voting number for as long as she stays in the competition will be 14.
- Francis Bowers, 23, from Melkbosstrand chose the Sarah McLachlan ballad Angel in honour of his late grandmother, and Kahn told him his voice was “delicious”. Francis’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 12.

#TeamLira:

- Jeremy Olivier, 41, from Cape Town accompanied himself on the acoustic guitar singing the Ed Sheeran hit Thinking Out Loud. “I am beyond proud,” Lira said. Jeremy’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 27.
- 28-year-old Sibulele Miti from Cape Town performed Bruno Mars’s Grenade and Lira thought she was “dazzling”. Sibulele’s voting number for as long as she stays in the competition will be 31.
- The Pretoria duo Blaque Harmony – Karabo Makwela, 24, and Botlhale Phora, 20, – chose a local hit with which to win votes: Take Yours I’ll Take Mine, from Matthew Mole. “I’m just beaming with pride!” Lira smiled. Blaque Harmony’s voting number for as long as they stay in the competition will be 25.

#TeamBobby: 

- Kim Collins, the 37-year-old hairdresser from Cape Town, opened for #TeamBobby with the apt Kelly Clarkson hit, A Moment Like This. “You have a lot of guts and I admire you for that,” said a choked-up Bobby. Kim’s voting number for as long as she stays in the competition will be 03.
- 22-year-old Vernon Barnard from Strand in the Cape chose The Lumineers’s Ho Hey with which to make his impression, and Bobby thanked him for opening South Africa’s eyes. Vernon’s voting number for as long as he stays in the competition will be 06.
- And 23-year-old Zoe Mtila from Port Elizabeth also chose a local hit to impress Coach Bobby: Bucie’s hit with Heavy K, Easy To Love. Bobby thought after that performance all of South Africa’s DJs are going to want to work with her. Zoe’s voting number for as long as she stays in the competition will be 08.
