EXCLUSIVE: Kim Kardashian West says she is ready to vacay in SA!

Channel24’s Bronwyn McKay interviewed Hollywood royalty Kim Kardashian West in celebration of 10 years of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Cape Town – Her very first job in Hollywood was as Paris Hilton’s stylist, roughly 11 years later she is one of the most talked about celebrities in the entire world.

Kim Kardashian West is a name everyone has heard, thanks - in most part - to the success of what has been voted the most popular reality TV show ever made.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians started out as just another reality TV show following on the success of The Osbournes. Now, 10 years and almost 14 seasons later, it has become a global empire.

In a South African exclusive interview with Channel24, Kim reveals the secret of how her family name became synonymous with fame.

ON VISITING SOUTH AFRICA

It’s late night in Cape Town and Kim is getting an early start in Los Angeles when we connect over the phone to discuss Keeping Up with the Kardashians and the famous family possibly visiting South Africa.

“We love our vacations and we go on one every year. I haven’t thought we’d have it [this year], but I’m going to suggest [South Africa] today because I think that would be so much fun!

“I’ve been to South Africa, I’ve been to different parts of Africa but I have never been on safari. Every time I’ve planned to go something would come up so I’ve never actually been on safari but I would love to go!”

ON THE SUCCESS OF THE SHOW

Viewers across the world have been watching the famous family from their couches for a decade however Kim admits they never thought it would become such a success.

“When we started we definitely had no idea. We thought we were going to do one season, maybe two. We had no idea it was going to turn into what it has become and it is just so much fun.

“I love that I get to work with my family every single day and it’s just so much fun to do. It also just happens to be something that we do for a living.”

ON SWITCHING OFF THE CAMERAS

After filming for so many years, it is something Kim and her family have said they’ve become used to but would they miss it if the cameras were to ever be switched off?

“I think we would miss it. We’ve been filming for so long and the people behind the cameras have become like family to us, so yeah I think we would miss it.”

With cameras filming their every move at all hours of the day, it is only normal to assume it has its challenges. For Kim one of those challenges is questioning whether certain situations they are in should be filmed.

“We’ve done a really good job at letting our guard down so I think the most challenging part is just...sometimes you just get to a point where you question if you should be filming this, whatever the situation is, but we always help each other push through and in the end we always feel so happy that we did it and love the outcome.”

ON MAKING IT IN THE INDUSTRY

With a decade of filming comes experience and Kim has loads of it. Her advice to anyone wanting to do their own reality TV show is to always remain authentic.

“I would say you just have to be yourself, like you can’t censor yourself, you can’t not give 100%, like you have to show everything and I think that’s why it works.”

Well, it certainly does work and the proof is in 10 years of being Kardashian. A lot can change in 10 years and the family often watch previous episodes to see how things have changed. Just like any other person they often cringe at things they used to say or do.

“It’s so funny to hear what we would talk about, what we would fight about. Like even looking back at something we had a huge fight about, it just seems so ridiculous now.”

ON FAMILY ALWAYS COMING FIRST

At the end of the day, no matter how entertaining to its viewers, the Kardashians are a close-knit family and never letting go of that is the one lesson Kim says she has learnt from all of this.

"I really think that overall the one lesson is that we are stronger in numbers and we have like this thing of bringing family together and we value our friendships and relationships with each other and I think an important lesson is just to never let that go.”

She takes a few seconds before concluding: "Family first. Always."
