Cape Town - These musical dramas, comedies and documentaries on internet TV will put a song in your heart, an ear-worm in your brain (sorry!), and a spring in your step this weekend.
Rebecca is an ace New York lawyer. Then a chance meeting with her first love who broke her heart years ago makes her decide to leave everything behind and move to California seeking love, happiness and contentment. Show co-creator and lead actor Rachel Bloom and her co-stars wrote and deliver all the songs in this musical comedy, and they’re deliciously funny and perfectly on point. Even if you’re not usually sold on shows where characters spontaneously burst into song (do you even have a soul, though?), you’ll fall in love with this one. It didn’t win a Critics’ Choice Award, a Golden Globe and two Emmys for nothing, you know. Look out for Office star and writer BJ Novak in a cameo as himself.

Her prison-mate is her idol, vaudevillian Velma Kelly, who’s inside for the cold-blooded murder of her husband and her sister. Now the two murderesses must battle it out for the public’s favour, complete with song, dance and All That Jazz. This early-2000s classic is set in the roaring 20s and stars Renee Zellweger as housewife Roxie Hart, smouldering Catherine Zeta-Jones as Velma Kelly and Richard Gere as Billy Flynn, their smooth-talking lawyer.

Yes, Deadheads will go crazy for it, but it’s billed as a documentary that even those who can’t stand the band’s eclectic mix of rock, psychedelia, jazz, reggae and experimental music will be enthralled by.
