Timeless opera classic returns to Cape Town

Cape Town - Michael Williams’ spectacular staging of Bizet’s eternally popular Spanish melodrama Carmen, presented by Cape Town Opera, opens at Artscape on Thursday, 20 October.

The performance, which was a sell-out success in 2011, boasts a large cast complete with a company of flamenco dancers executing the inspired choreography of the late Carolyn Holden.

Cape Town Opera associate music director Tim Murray conducts the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra with an augmented Cape Town Opera chorus and a cast of international soloists and studio singers giving full-bodied voice to Bizet’s melodies.

According to director Michael Williams the production has been a real joy to work on.

"What has been a real joy for me on the journey of this production of Carmen has been the combination of spectacle and the French flair and lightness that Maestro Tim Murray has brought to the musical score," Williams said.
