LISTEN: Diamond Thug’s new single will make you feel like you’re floating

Cape Town - Diamond Thug released their brand new single, titled Eclipsed, on Wednesday.

Eclipsed is the first single from Diamond Thug's debut album which is due for release in February 2018. The single introduces a new psychedelic pop/rock feel that ties into the album's spacey theme.

The sound for Eclipsed is crafted by incorporating bouncing synthesizers, afro-rhythmic drum beats and perfectly placed guitars. Van T’s haunting vocal carries an ambivalent message of escaping one's dependencies above a dreamy soundscape, climaxing in a final psychedelic ascent.

"Eclipsed represents the state of being overshadowed by someone, knowing that only once you find the strength to break away will you be free to come into your own. It’s about fighting the belief that you belong in someone else’s shadow and resisting the urge to value the familiarity of their darkness over your own light," explains front woman, Chantel Van T.

"We wrote the song last year during a period of time in which we challenged ourselves to compose a basic idea each day. The original idea stemmed from the synth line Adrian wrote and evolved into what it is through each member’s interpretation of the piece and the feeling it evoked at the time," bassist Danilo Queiros told Channel24.

And can they describe the new song's sound? "Hmmmm that’s a tough one, but we’ll give it a go: The whole album’s sound is based on a cosmic sci-fi folklore adventure we’ve created. Eclipsed is an amalgamation of dark electronica and rolling psychedelic waves."
