WATCH: The Ring is back and it's not for the faint-hearted

Cape Town – Remember that creepy horror franchise The Ring? Brace yourself it's back and scarier than ever.

The new film Rings is a prequel to the previous films.

The trailer re-introduces the premise of the series: after watching a horror video the viewer gets a phone call from a mysterious voice that mumbles, "seven days". For seven days that person is haunted and then dies.

This time around a young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.

She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before.

The movie stars: Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D'Onofrio.
