Bennie Fourie best known for his roles in Mooirivier and Die Pro plays one of the band members.
We had a quick chat with Bennie about his role.
1. How did you get involved with the project?
The writer, Stiaan Smith and I have been friends since university. We're both writers, so we talked a lot about the project over the course of the four or five years he wrote it. It was literally a month before we started shooting that I got the part. I was supposed to be the assistant director on the film, but then one of the actors had to pull out. I auditioned for it and got the part of playing Stiaan's good friend - which came naturally, since we are good friends.
2. Who do you play in the film and are there any similarities between you and your character?
I play JJ. He's a mechanic that's a bit stuck. He's semi unhappily married and has two kids. It's no fun at home and when being presented the opportunity to be in a band he grabs it like a lif line. I think we are similar in the way that I also love to have people around me with a good positive energy and he's not fussy which I think I'm not too.
3. What’s the one thing that will surprise people about the film?
I think Stiaan and Corné van Rooyen, our director did an amazing job with telling the story. The plot points are beautifully disguised and refreshing. The music by Bouwer Bosch and Dawie de Jager is also a very integral part of the film that people will love.
4. What was the most challenging thing during filming?
Looking like a real bad. We had to make sure it doesn't look fake. We actually performed all the songs on the day - although they re-recorded it afterwards. Learning to play the bass was awesome and difficult because I have about as much rhythm as a rock.
5. Why should people go and see it?
It's great entertainment and it really isn't pretentious. The characters talk like everyday people. It's also inspiring in the sense that if you want something you just have to go and do it!
