International heist film to kick off filming in Cape Town next year

Cape Town – After some delay the heist film The Blue Mauritius is back on track.

The film has a new producing partner, Benaroya Pictures best known for their work on Queen of the Desert and Lawless.

Channel24 reported earlier that local actors Pearl Thusi, Nicola Breytenbach and Deon Lotz have been cast in key roles in the international film.

Hollywood A-lister Anthony Mackie is the latest addition to the cast. Best known for his role as the Falcon in Marvel's Avengers.

"Anthony Mackie who I consider a real movie star brings such a fresh perspective to the cast and the character, he’s an incredibly talented, versatile actor who truly takes the project to the next level," says executive producer and CEO of D Street Media Group Dexter Davis.

Other cast members include: John Rhys-Davies, Gerard Depardieu and Thomas Kretschmann.

Filming will begin in March 2018. According to a press statement 90% of the film will be shot on location in Cape Town and in several of the Mother City's luxury hotels.

A million dollar state of the art studio is being build in Durban, Port Shepstone. According to Davis the film is a "sexy action packed letter to Cape Town".
