Denzel Washington cowboy flick to open Toronto Film Festival

Los Angeles — Antoine Fuqua's The Magnificent Seven remake starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt will have its world premiere as the opening film of the 41st Toronto International Film Festival.

Festival CEO and Director Piers Handling and Artistic Director Cameron Bailey announced the star-studded lineup of galas and special presentations Tuesday. The festival will include premieres of Denis Villeneuve's Arrival, with Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner, and Peter Berg's Mark Wahlberg-led Deepwater Horizon.

The annual festival is considered a launching pad to Hollywood's awards season and will feature hopefuls like Jeff Nichols' Loving, Damien Chazelle's La La Land, and Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation.

The coming of age drama The Edge of Seventeen, starring Hailee Steinfeld, will close out the festival, which runs from 8 September through 18 September.
