Johnny Depp joked about assassinating Donald Trump

Los Angeles — Johnny Depp asked a crowd at the Glastonbury Festival when was the last time an actor assassinated a president. The remarks came during a segment on Thursday in which Depp was speaking about President Donald Trump.

He asked the question at the annual festival that celebrates the performing arts.

Depp said to the crowd: "Can we bring Trump here? I think he needs help.

"It is just a question — I'm not insinuating anything. By the way, this is going to be in the press. It will be horrible. I like that you're all part of it. But when was the last time an actor assassinated a president?"

The 54-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star followed by saying that he is not an actor, but someone who lies for a living.

However, he said, it's "been a while, and maybe it's time."

Actor John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.

Depp was at the festival to introduce a screening of his 2004 film The Libertine.

Trump has yet to weigh in on the comments.

He played Trump last year in a Fun or Die video parody of the businessman's 1987 book The Art of the Deal.

This is not the first time a celebrity has made a statement about their feelings towards the current president.

Comedian Kathy Griffin found herself in hot after sharing graphic images of herself holding a severed head that looks like Trump. (Read more here)
