SABC: Come say goodbye to Vuyo Mbuli

Cape Town - The SABC says it wants South Africans to come and say goodbye to popular TV personality Vuyo Mbuli at a memorial service that has been opened to public.

Vuyo Mbuli's public SABC memorial service will take place on Wednesday at 14:00 in the Renaissance Centre at the Auckland Park headquarters.

"We are calling on everyone who wants to be a part of the memorial on Wednesday to come over and let us share the moments and life of Vuyo Mbuli," the SABC said.

Mbuli, the 46-year-old co-anchor of the SABC's flagship weekday breakfast show Morning Live on SABC2, died unexpectedly from a a pulmonary embolism on Saturday night after collapsing at the Cheetahs vs Reds Super rugby game in Bloemfontein.

His death rocked the SABC where Mbuli was the face of the breakfast show for 13 years and left the crew devastated, with SABC personnel and South African viewers and listeners stunned.

Leanne Manas, his long-time co-presenter, told Morning Live viewers on Monday morning that she felt as if she'd lost her "morning husband".

Now the SABC plans a big send-off and a massive final goodbye for Mbuli as tributes to him continue to stream in from places as far away as Botswana and the United Kingdom. to America and even New Zealand.

Mbuli's funeral is set to take place on Friday, 24 May at St John's College in Houghton at 09:00.
