Oppikoppi announces UK headline act
Cape Town – Oppikoppi organisers announced on Monday that Welsh band Bullet For My Valentine will be making their South African debut at the 18th Oppikoppi festival.
Metal-core band Bullet For My Valentine will headline this year's festival which is taking place from 9-11 August on the outskirts of the small town of Northam in the Limpopo province.
The 18th anniversary of the Oppikoppi festival will run with the theme "Sweet Thing".
Bullet for My Valentine comprises lead singer and rhythm guitarist Matthew Tuck, drummer Michael 'Moose' Thomas, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Michael 'Padge' Paget and bassist and backing vocalist Jason 'Jay' James.
The group, named Best British Band in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by metal magazine Kerrang!, formed 10 years ago in their hometown of Bridgend as Jeff Killed John, covering Metallica and Nirvana songs.
Citing Metallica, Iron Maiden and Slayer as their influences, they found their niche in 2002 on signing a five album deal with Sony BMG.
Additional South African tour dates for Bullet For My Valentine will be announced soon.
