Matt Damon says no to more Bourne

Los Angeles - Matt Damon has ruled himself out of playing Jason Bourne again.

The actor starred as the secret agent for three chapters of the blockbuster franchise, but claims he doesn't want to reprise his role after Jeremy Renner's portrayal of Aaron Cross in the most recent film, The Bourne Legacy, which changed the concept and plot of the whole series.

Matt said: "There has not been any movement. I've always been open to it as long as Paul Greengrass directs, I don't think he's going to do it. From what I understand, [The Bourne Legacy] kind of relives [The Bourne Ultimatum] from a different perspective.

Audience too smart

"What that means, because they use our actors and characters, is that whatever they said [in Legacy] is true and so we'd have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we'd do. And that makes it really tough."

Even though he would love to play his beloved character Jason one last time, Matt thinks the audience would be too smart and hyper-critical to enjoy a new storyline which would invalidate everything that happened in the fourth instalment.

The 42-year-old star added to Movieline.com: "I don't think we can do the Dallas it-was-all-a-dream scenario. I don't think the audience would go for that after they paid money to see a movie. I'd really love to do another one because I love the character."

The star thinks it would also be "a real struggle to extend the franchise" after loose ends were tied up and Bourne finally found his identity.

He concluded: "Where do you go next?"
