- In the latest episode, former Springbok player Breyton Paulse was revealed to be behind the character Monster.
The first season of the local version of the singing competition guessing game show, The Masked Singer South Africa, took the country by storm last year. It kept viewers on the edge of their seats while they tried to figure out which celebrity was behind the larger-than-life masks.
The show returned for a second season last month with 16 new megastars. Mpho 'Popps' Modikoane reprised his role as host along with detectives Somizi Mhlongo, J'Something, Skhumba Hlophe and Sithelo Shozi.
Since its Saturday, 6 April, premiere on S3 (DStv 193) at 18:30, six famous faces have already been unmasked: a veteran actor, comedian, radio personality, reality TV star, UFC champion and former Springbok. Last season saw the famous faces of Kurt Darren, Maps Maponyane, Jason Goliath, Zozibini Tunzi, Mmusi Maimane, Doctor Khumalo and Victor Matfield, among others, unmasked.

Breyton Paulse as Monster
The Masked Singer's fluffy Monster was revealed to be Springbok veteran Breyton Paulse, who played wing for the team from 1999 to 2007.
The sports commentator's identity was figured out by singer Kurt Darren, who was Season 1's runner-up, Rhino. However, Darren later changed his guess to Kwagga Smith.
"Being Monster on The Masked Singer was loads of fun and an interesting experience," Paulse said.
"The detectives' comments and guesses made me laugh, and I was impressed by how insanely secretive everything behind the scenes was. Kudos to everybody who is part of the show. It was a fantastic journey."
Dricus Du Plessis as Wildebeest:
UFC world champ Dricus Du Plessis wowed the crowd with his reveal on the show, disguised as Wildebeest.
Wildebeest opened the new season five weeks ago with a performance of Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams and the judges could not figure out who it was.
Du Plessis said his time on the show was "awesome" and "so much fun".
"I love music. I sing a lot in the shower, and I sing a lot in the car, so I thought, 'Let me get out of my comfort zone and take this car singing to the world'. And I loved being Wildebeest. It was a spot-on outfit for me," he said.
Nthati Moshesh as Springbok:
When approached to be on the show, Moshesh said she immediately jumped at the opportunity.
"In all my roles, I'm serious, strict, stern, horrible, and evil. So, when this came up, I thought the inner child in Nthathi must come out and play and have fun," she said.
Celeste Ntuli as Tortoise:
After a mind-blowing performance of Lebo Mathosa's Free and her identity being guessed correctly by Somizi, Ntuli said the experience made her feel like a character and singer.
"I'm a comedian and love making people laugh - also an actress. But this made me feel like I'm a character and a singer," she said.
Khutso Theledi as Cheetah:
Also guessed correctly by Somizi, Theledi described the experience as "something else".
"You feel that you've been swallowed, but at the same time, you're filled with excitement, happiness, and joy. I'll do it again," she said.
Nonkanyiso 'LaConco' Conco as Star:
The Real Housewives of Durban star and TV presenter, fondly referred to as LaConco, was the most recent famous face to be unmasked.
After her unmasking, she said: "I can't sing for my life and being on stage performing like this was all new to me. But I enjoy challenging myself. It was an experience and a half but great fun."
"I laughed so much inside the mask when my friends, Somizi and Sithelo, got the clues so wrong."
